Eat It
Read, re-read, retell. If you can't tell it back, you haven't swallowed it yet.
Part: Feed Yourself
Look back first. Did you do your study this week? What did you find? Celebrate that you did it at all — the habit matters more right now than the insight.
This module zooms in on the first move: 🍞 Eat. Eating the Word is three small actions — read · re-read · retell. Re-reading is chewing. The retell is the swallow.
If you can’t tell it back, you haven’t swallowed it yet.
Most people — even lifelong churchgoers — read a passage once and move on, and miss most of it. Reading twice and then retelling from memory is the test that you’ve actually taken it in.
Open to Ezekiel 3:1–3 (and, if you like, Jeremiah 15:16). Read it aloud twice. Notice the picture: the prophet eats the scroll — the Word taken in, not just looked at.
I used to read a chapter, move on, and call it study. The turn: slow down, re-read, and retell before you go anywhere else.
Practice — in pairs: read a short passage twice. Retell it from memory. Your partner names what you missed. Don’t correct each other with a lecture — let the missing bits get discovered by asking.
Your “I will”: name a real cadence for this week — how many days you’ll study, retelling each one. “I’ll read more” doesn’t count; put days on it.
Close in prayer.
