Belief 3 — Who Teaches

The Spirit teaches through the Word — not me.

When we gather around a passage, no one in the room is the expert with the answers. The teacher is the Holy Spirit, working through the Word itself. Our job is to keep asking the group back to the text: “Where do you see that in this passage?”

That’s why we say: don’t chew people’s food for them. The moment a leader explains the passage for the group, the group stops discovering and starts depending on the leader. A group that is fed grows dependent; a group that feeds itself grows up. So we ask instead of tell, and we trust the Spirit and the Word to do the teaching.

Scripture — John 14:26 (ESV)

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
